The Four Seasons x2: Piazzolla/ Vivaldi
JDT
3175
This
CD is a salute to the Manchester Music Festival Ensemble's
30th Anniversary (in 2004). Like many summer festivals around the country
and the world, the Festival had its beginnings in the desire to play and
hear beautiful music in a cool, rural setting. From a summer-only enterprise,
it has expanded into a year-round celebration of music. Both composers
Piazzolla and Vivaldi wrote works entitled "The Four Seasons"
and each complete opus is on this anniversary recording. Seasons x2 features
solo performances by Joana Genova, violin, Ron Levy, piano, and Justin
Kagan, cello on the Piazzolla; Danwen Jiang is the solo violinist heard
on the Vivaldi.

After the glitz and glamour of the Academy Awards, where does a stellar
Sound Editor go for an encore? In the case of Jonathan Schultz, Sound
Editor for The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, he happily switches
gears to perfect the Manchester Music Festival's new 2-CD set commemorating
30 years of fine music.
On the blockbuster movies, adaptations of JRR Tolkein's fantasy novels,
Jonathan Schultz worked directly under Academy Award-winning composer
Howard Shore and with the London Philharmonic. Schultz provided Sound
Editing expertise on two of the Lord of the Rings movies. Jonathan's musical
career has taken interesting turns, and he is no stranger to the Music
Festival. He attended the MMF's six-week summer Young Artists chamber
music program in the mid-1980's as cellist. He studied with former MMF
Artistic Director Michael Rudiakov, and also taught the recorder alongside
future MMF Artistic Director Ariel Rudiakov during the Festival's very
first Music Education Week program in 1985!
